The Milk Chain Essay Example for Free

The Milk Chain Essay Malawi Dairybord is a home for dairy products. Rogers has run the dairy for the past twelve years. His product is a combination of goods the items he delivers and services the delivery and associated jobs he does for customers. At the heart of operations is an information system which contains full details of all of Rogers’s 1000 plus customers, including their regular orders, special orders, where to deliver, how they pay and so on. Everyday the system calculates the likely sales of all products in two days time. Rogers adds some margin of safety allows for likely variations and passes his order to Unidairy some 150km away. Unidairy acts as a wholesaler for milkmen in Bvumbwe and surrounding areas. The following evening Unidairy delivers to a holding depot in Limbe and then takes Roger’s goods 10km to a cold store in Njuli. At 5. 30am the following morning Roger collects the order from his cold store and starts delivering to customers. This normally takes until 1. 30 in the afternoon but on Fridays he spends more time collecting money and often finishes after 5. 0pm There are several specific problems facing Malawi Dairybord. There is for example some variation in daily demand so Roger has to carry spare stock. He cannot carry too much as dairy products have a short life and anything not delivered is thrown away. Roger aims at keeping this waste down to 2% of sales. There are also problems maintaining a service during holidays, or when Unidairy has difficulties with their deliveries. Perhaps Roger’s main concern is maintaining his sales over the long term. Demand for doorstep deliveries is declining as people buy more milk at supermarkets. The number of milkmen in Bvumbwe has declined from ten in 1997 to three in 2012. Most of Roger’s customers have been with him for many years but he generates new custom delivering leaflets, special offers and carrying a range of products. Case study questions Describe the supply chain for milk Where does Malawi Dairybord fit into this? What specific activities form the logistics in Malawi Dairybord. New Casts :: essays research papers

News Casts: Is there more than meets the Eye? In today’s world, people rely on different things to inform them of what is happening in society. One of the main ways of receiving the news is by TV. People can tune in at various times during the day and watch a news cast. These news segments vary from a half-hour to a full hour showing. For instance, one might not be interested in the news one day. But before the showing of Channel 31 “Action News'; is to be aired the news shows a little snippet of a very interesting story. This might catch one’s attention and decide to watch just that one story. Now they have you hooked because the very interesting story that you want to watch is going to be shown at the end of the segment. One might have to sit through all the commercials and the other stories just to get to the one story that interests them. These are some of the certain tricks to draw and keep their viewers tuned in. One of the tricks that are use is called “Teasers';. A teaser does exactly what it’s called. The news show’s a snippet of the up coming segment. This snippet is usually of an interesting and exciting story. The snippet is the tease. The news is like fishing. The new anchors are the fishermen or women. The viewers are the fish. The new anchors use these teasers as bait to reel in the viewers. This snippet is showed before the sitcom before the news is over. This way people watching the sitcom might get interested to stay and watch the news cast. Another trick is similar to the teaser. That trick is called the Bumper. The bumpers are used like the teaser, except they are shown during the news and right before commercials. The bumpers are intend to keep you interested enough so the viewer will sit through the commercials to watch the rest of the news. Also there are bumpers at the end of the news program. Those are trying to get you to tune into the next airing of the news. According to Postman and Powers from “How to watch TV news'; if the news programmers had their way people would be watching a steady diet of news programs, one right after the other. The News anchors are the ones that deliver the bumpers.

Compare and Contrast Lee’s Presentation of Miss Maudie, Mrs Dubose and Aunt Alexandra

Compare and Contrast Lee's Presentation of Miss Maudie, Mrs Dubose and Aunt Lee's presentation of Miss Maudie, Mrs Dubose and Aunt Alexandra. What do the children learn from their encounters with these characters? In the novel ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ by Harper Lee the protagonist Jean Louise ‘Scout’ Finch and her brother ‘Jem’ meet a few female characters who all affects some part of the lives of the children. Harper Lee resists some of the conventional stereotypes of women from that era which is shown through the character Miss Maudie Atkinson who is opinionated, and speak her mind.Miss Maudie’s morality is level with Atticus’ and unlike some other female residents of Maycomb County, Miss Maudie minds her own business and behaves with integrity. She shows people the respect they deserve, calling Scout â€Å"Jean Louise† and Boo Radley â€Å"Arthur,† proves this. Miss Maudie totally opposes Aunt Alexandra, who is the sister of Atticus, the childrens father.Miss Maudie is someone who is there for Scout to talk to and will actually listen as she is a woman who does not judge people but has a broad mind, for example about the trial of Tom Robinson. However Aunt Alexandra fits the sterotype of women of that time as she behaves very lady-like and wishes to impose this manner onto Scout and turn her into a â€Å"lady†. She doesn't approve of Atticus's defense of a black man, even though he is innocent. She is very concerned about how the Finch family is seen in the community. She doesn't want them to do anything that will make the town go against them. Aunt Alexandra, who is all about image, comes to stay with Atticus and the kids so she can preserve the family name, which Jem and Scout object to. The first thing she does when she arrives is criticize Scout for acting like a boy â€Å"We decided it best for you to have some feminine influence† but Scout does not like Aunt Alexandra trying to change her, therefore she resists the change despite Aunt Alexandra attempts. onversely Miss Maudie alters Scout's perception of womanhood because in the morning, Miss Maudie is dressed in overalls and â€Å"men's clothing,† but at night, she changes into a dress and looks gorgeous showing Scout that being a woman does not mean that every hour one has to be in a dress looking beautiful. Miss Maudies presence as a neighbour is very appreciated by the children as she is also a friend to them, especially to Scout as she is there when Jem begins to grow up and not spend so much time with the narrator of this novel.Miss Maudie is there for Scout to lean on and supports her during tough times like at Aunt Alexandra's tea party. Miss Maudie comforts her when everyone was laughing: â€Å"Miss Maudie looked gravely at me. She never laughed unless I meant to be funny† showing that this female charcter is reverent and could be interpreted as a motherly figure to Scout. Miss M audie is also there for Scout to hold her hand while the other ladies are subtly making fun of Atticus and saying that he is a disgrace for defending a Negro.
